I am interested but think it’s a little late for this year. The deadline is the middle of August for Ontario.
I don’t think as many people use the yellowpages with the internet and cell phones. I ask all new clients how they heard about our spa, most say they did a search on the internet.
So spending alot of money on yellowpages doesn’t seem to be a great bang for your buck.

Thanks for all your great ideas on other marketing items John

Thanks Kim… even if we are over your local deadline… it’s still going to be a great guide for any sort of advertising!

Yes more people are moving to the internet… you can place an ad in the Yellow Page directory online. But developing the ad and the marketing strategies are the same.

Also it’s not about using just one medium… it’s having a few different campaigns running that will give you the biggest results from your marketing efforts.

    Regards,

I used to place ads but find it too expensive and from feedback from my clients most find me on line.

Print Yellow Pages advertising still works for specific types of businesses.

First, there are the dentists, the cosmetic surgeons and the lawyers who spend outrageous amounts of their advertising budgets in the print Yellow Pages. It seems impossible that these advertisers could make a reasonable return on their investment.

However, if you consider that all the dentist and cosmetic surgeon need are a handful of clients while the lawyer only needs one client from the Yellow Pages to recoup their investment, it starts to make sense. The high margins these businesses demand allow for serious Yellow Pages advertising spending.

The same rings true for Hair Salons, Day Spas, Medi Spas and Massage Practices… most complain that it’s too expensive to run ads. But I can tell you your local prospects go there looking for you. The BIGGER problem is not that they are expensive… it’s that most can not get their ads to generate a return on investment.

Why? Because they’re creating crummy ads! Most people follow a herd mentality and copy competitors… no wonder 99.9% of all ads look the same.

Lets change that! Lets create BETTER ads generate MORE phone calls and Re-Coup our investment!

I cancelled my yellow pages and will not be renewing this year. I had put in a coupon for 50% off services, which I found really didn’t give me the type of clientle that I wanted. I have been told by my business class’s not to spend money’s on yellow pages, that it is much better to spend the money on the clients that you do have, to intice them to come in for more services, or to work with your referral program. This way you are also insured of the type of clientle you want for your business.
I am currently working a representive for a TV ad. I am always open to suggestions.

I havent advertised in the yellow pages but was going to. Its $38.95 a month and I really dont want to but my compatition does. That is the only reason we will.

It’s a certitude, where will people look first to locate a spa or salon if they need a contact and have no referral . . . it will be in the Yellow Pages wetter it be the book or internet.

The problem is in the design of the add that needs to capture interest. If the add is too small, it stands good chances of going unnoticed and if the add is dominant, you’ll get top ranking on internet and in the book copy but you will empty your bank account.

The challenge is to design a micro add that can pull interest and preserve your bank account !

I’m also very eager to see what you will come out with. I used YP adds before and stopped after reading your article on the return on investment that was excellent and so true.

I have done Yellow Pages and PDC. They cost me $5000 each for a average sized ad. Won’t be doing it again this year. It’s hard but ismn’t it, you really do have to be in it. I get so much more business from walk past traffic and the web. I’m spending money on freshening the store front on the street instead this year.
