Benchmark set for green spas

Spa Industry Trends

The international certification body Green Globe has begun work on SBIs, (sector benchmarking indicators for those of us out of the loop) for the spa industry, to gauge if a spa can be classified as ‘green’ or not. The company has already developed the benchmarking system for the responsible construction of resorts.
.
This system will be the first certifiable eco-label for the spa industry to judge levels of standards. Up until now the spas have been benchmarked within the resorts themselves, not independently. With more spas making environmental responsibility part of their modus operandi, a new system is much needed.
.
The leader in this trend is the Six Senses Spas, and it is against them that a system of standardization is being constructed. The EarthCheck benchmarking system has been supported wholeheartedly by the Six Senses Spas, and the company has enrolled each of its outlets for the new certification when it is ready.
.
There are Six Senses spas in Thailand, Vietnam and the Maldives, with spas being included in larger resorts and hotels in Qatar, Turkey, Greece, the Dominican Republic, Mauritius and Spain.
